Dirt Cheap Eats - Washingtonian Magazine
February 22, 2005
Ann Limpert, Cindy Rich, and Jeremy Stahl

Even though you order at the counter, doughboys is a nice spot for a casual date. Every table has fresh flowers.

Wood-fired pizzas include the Quatro Formaggi, a mix of Gorgonzola, Fontina, Mozzarella, and Provolone, and the Southwestern, with skirt steak, red onion, roasted red pepper, corn, and pepper jack. Share a pizza and a salad and you might have room for house-made tiramisu, focaccia bread pudding, or gelato.

Panini, served on focaccia, range from an unusual fruit creation to a roasted lamb or steak. We prefer the roasted chicken with spinach, tomato, and mozzarella. Ask for a side of basil pesto, which is so good you'll probably dip you chips in it. The hot-dog panini with mozzarella, once only a kids-menu item, is now popular in an adult size.
